In a panic as the days count down to Friday? Here’s some help to save your energy for more amorous purposes…
Purchase a few delicious truffles from Denver chocolatiers: Westword Best of 2013 winner Black Star Chocolates ; Larimer Square’s Chocolatier Blue or Roberta’s Chocolates . Keep these handy – they’ll come in handy…
A musical celebration of love begins with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Denver’s “Most Romantic Date” night. For $15/person, enjoy wine, chocolates and flowers at a pre-show event in Boettcher Concert Hall. Following is a “Love and Lust” concert (tickets $20+). Bravo to the CSO for linking romance with music!
Before and after the concert, Larimer Square offers a romantic night scene for strolling and dining. Nothing beats Parisian styled Bistro Vendome, tucked into an inner courtyard with twinkling lights. Options are at Visit Denver list of the Most Romantic Restaurants . Close the evening with a nightcap at the Hyatt Regency 37th floor Peaks Lounge and a dreamy nighttime view of Denver.
Got more time and dough? Escape to Colorado’s magnificent High Country for a last-minute overnight splurge at Devil’s Thumb Ranch! Two promising dining options. Heck’s casual bar/grill has a roaring fireplace and live music. Ranch House special Valentines Dinner $65 each, prix fixe, reservations a must! Sleep in and then head out for Nordic skiing on miles of groomed trails. Be sure to take a tipple (see distillers list below) to share along the way.
Saturday is going to be a warm winter day to visit Denver’s most impossibly romantic place in the city, the Denver Botanic Gardens. For this special daytime escapade, a little advance prep is needed! Stuff your pockets with chocolates (see list above), and fill a flask with spirits from your fav Denver/ Colorado distillers Leopold Bros., Stranahans, Cap Rock. Now you’re ready for this memorable lover’s escapade in Denver’s own Garden of Eden…
Start with a stroll through the tropical Conservatory. Humid, warm, bursting with flowers, scents, color! Notice how many plants are heart-shaped, always celebrating Valentine’s Day in their natural state. Sit at a bench, share a kiss… and nibble a truffle as you take selfie #1!
Now that you’re all hot and bothered, cool off in the misty Orchid Pavilion. In the Orangerie, wafts of citrus will transport you to a spring “Night in Seville”… Steal another kiss. Selfies amid the heady smells of the blossoms are a must.
Now outside, to the Japanese gardens for simple tranquil beauty of evergreens and water. Pause on the romantic bridge under a delicate canopy of birch branches…
Hold hands down the evergreen forest path, under spruce and firs… Sip a nip from the flask to flush your cheeks just so… On to the Alpine rock gardens for a rugged liplock amongst the boulders…
Cuddle and take another nip in the bell hut of the Asian Gardens, after the bamboo and black riverstone path… Then meander through the garden rooms along the south side – smooching by the glass conservatory and under the grape arbors…
Save the last truffle, and a last sip o’ spirits, for the Romantic Gardens. Pop into one of the charming mini-cottages. Giggle like children as you embrace against the chill, playing house in a fairy garden. Take a selfie and send it out to all your pals… share the love!
